According to Gartner's latest figures, the Linux market grew a whopping 90% in 2003. The growth of Linux is absolutely eating into the opportunity that Window has as a server," says Gartner analyst David Smith. "A lot of growth that Microsoft was counting on for Windows Server 2003 is at risk because of the popularity of Linux. Also, IDC confirms that the fourth quarter of 2003 appears to have been its breakout period.
