The Second Annual Business Intelligence & Data Analytics Summit is a one-day event aimed in Belgium on June 11th, 2020.
This summit covers all aspects of business intelligence, analytics and data warehousing, including big data, data science, self-service analytics, predictive analytics, data visualisation, IoT applications, operational intelligence, streaming analytics, data virtualisation, data vault, data architectures, ...

The Rise of Data Stories in the Enterprise | Erik Laurijssen (Datylon)
For the past 30+ years there has been a surge of increasingly powerful (big) data analytics tools making it increasingly easy for data scientists and business analysts to find insights using explorative dataviz. Yet converting these insights into actions still remains mainly a challenge because insights typically do not easily find their way throughout an organization causing delayed, incomplete or even missed opportunities to take action.
One of the answers to facilitate action from insights is using explanatory dataviz techniques. Explanatory dataviz focuses on ensuring data insights can be easily accessed, interpreted and discussed by all stakeholders. By democratizing data insights beyond the realm of the data savvy (data scientists, business analysts, etc.) and allowing any business user to be part of the conversation around data or insights there lays an important catalyst for turning data into actions.
Explanatory dataviz in many cases takes the form of data stories. It’s not just raw charts or maps, but by adding a narrative, smart annotations and by giving attention to visual details to highlight insights the data becomes easier to consume and act upon for more people. The target group might be executives who are short on time to understand all the details hidden in the data or the large group of people in a company who are not frequently exposed to data, yet who can benefit from a better understanding of aspects of the business.
Here a 2 examples on how data stories bring value to the enterprise: 1. Proximus MyAnalytics allows any business to interactively query terabytes of data via interactive data stories that convey location insights. 2. CMC IoT: CMC is a Flemish company and the world-wide market leader for controllers for air compressors with an installed base of over 500.000. Explanatory dataviz techniques maximize the opportunity for all stakeholders to make data actionable.

Speakers
Rick van der Lans is a highly-respected independent analyst, consultant, author, and internationally acclaimed lecturer specializing in data architectures, data warehousing, business intelligence, big data, and database technology. In 2018 he was selected the sixth most influential BI analyst worldwide by onalytica.com.
He has presented countless seminars, webinars, and keynotes at industry-leading conferences. For many years, he has served as the chairman of annual Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence Summit in The Netherlands.
Rick helps clients worldwide to design their data warehouse, big data, and business intelligence architectures and solutions and assists them with selecting the right products. He has been influential in introducing the new logical data warehouse architecture worldwide which helps organisations to develop more agile business intelligence systems.
Over the years, Rick has written hundreds of articles and blogs for newspapers and websites and has authored many educational and popular white papers for a long list of vendors. He was the author of the first available book on SQL, entitled including Introduction to SQL, which has been translated into several languages with more than 100,000 copies sold. Recently published books are Data Virtualization for Business Intelligence Systems and Data Virtualization: Selected Writings.
He presents seminars, keynotes, and in-house sessions on data architectures, big data and analytics, data virtualization, the logical data warehouse, data warehousing and business intelligence.
